About Ugg Boots

Pick up an Australian dictionary, and you will find "ug" or "ugh" boots listed as a traditional sheepskin shoe, originally worn by farmers down under looking for warmth in the winter. In World War I, pilots wore "FUGs", a type of (flying) ugg boot that was fleece lined and made in the style of this Australian icon. Even surfers coming out of the waves on the Australian coast began to wear ugg boots in the 1960s.

Eventually ugg boots traveled to other countries and has become a popular fashion among American trendsetters and celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Oprah. Fashion runways have sported ugg boots for the past couple years, and shoe stores in the U.S. are beginning to sell more of this unique style. In fact, the term "UGG" is now a trademark of an American company called "UGG Australia." Many of the original manufacturers in Australia are now calling their traditional ugg boots "Australian sheepskin boots" to distinguish them from the American styles.

The versatility of ugg boots is astounding. Genuine ugg boots are made of real sheepskin, which has a thermostatic nature that cools itself in the summer and traps heat in the winter. Thus, ugg boots are marketed for both summer and winter use. And the temperature regulation works best without socks, making them an easy and simple slip-on shoe, for around the house or outside!

The current fashion world has declared ugg boots to be acceptable with all types of outfits. There are ugg boots available for both men and women, but they seem to be more of a women's style in the U.S. Ugg boots look great with skinny jeans tucked in the shaft, or with skirts of all lengths, from mini to ankle.

Most ugg boots are sold in styles tall (reaching up the calf), short, just above the ankle, and also slipper styles. So you can find the most comfortable pair of ugg boots for you.

Because they are still a relatively new style, ugg boots made of real sheepskin are generally costly. They are easy to take care of and will last you a while, though. If it's just the style you are after, you can find fake ugg boots at general stores for around $20, but all the exceptional qualities like its thermostatic nature can only be found with real sheepskin.

You can find ugg boots in many colors, from pink and red to neutral colors like brown and black. Beige seems to be the most popular hue for ugg boots so far.

Whatever type of Ugg boots you go for, you are definitely in the "in" crowd if you have a pair!
