Caring for Your Fur Boots
Caring for fur boots is different than caring for any other type of boots.
Fur boots are often much less able to withstand certain conditions than other types of shoes or boots. To keep your fur boots lasting as long as possible, and looking their best, follow the tips below to learn more about caring for your fur boots:
- Don't crush the fur - when storing most shoes or boots, you may not even think about where you place them, how much room they have, or what they are up against. Fur is different, though, and to keep it looking its best, you don't want to place your boots up against anything else. This means that if, during the summertime, you will be storing your boots in a box in the closet, it is best if they get their own box with plenty of room.
- Don't use mothballs - this can be damaging to the fur and the smell will get stuck in the fur with much difficulty trying to remove it.
- Don't get the fur wet - try to avoid wearing them if you know it will be wet or snowy outside. If you do happen to get them wet, you should shake them out at the first opportunity and set them in an open area to dry.
- Storing boots - when caring for fur boots, many owners feel that it is protecting the boots to place them in plastic for storage. This is not a good idea, and can cause the boots to smell bad. Instead, you should leave them in an area where the air is allowed to circulate (in a box that doesn't crush the fur is okay), and where it is dry and cool.
- Don't brush the fur - while it may seem like there would be no harm in brushing the fur on your boots with either a brush or a comb, this is not a good idea and can cause the fur to fall out.
- Use a fur specialist - if your fur boots need to be cleaned, you should only allow this to be done by a fur specialist. Never try to clean them yourself.
- Keep them away from heat and light - fur is flammable, so you should keep your fur boots away from heat as much as possible. Do not let them near fires, heaters, etc. You should also refrain from allowing your fur boots to be exposed to sunlight or bright light for long periods, because this can cause the fur to fade in color.
By following the above guidelines, you will be caring for your fur boots properly, and you will be able to achieve maximum beauty and wear from them, which is something every fur boot wearer wants!
