Combat Boots
Throughout most of recorded war history, combat boots have been a necessary part of the soldier's uniform. An early specialized combat boot was the hobnail worn by Roman legions. Designed specifically for actual combat or training as opposed to parades or ceremonies, combat boots provide a combination of grip, ankle stability, and suitable flexibility for a rugged environment.
They are commonly manufactured with hardened or chemically-treatred leather and are made waterproof. Today Kevlar and nomex are integrated into the side panels for better ventilation. There are prototypes of combat boots for varying types of troops: including tanker boots, jump boots, jungle boots, desert boots, and cold weather boots. Although they are till worn by troops worldwide, an increasing number of civilians are discovering combat boots as a style as well as a practicality. They have become popular in the punk, heavy metal, skinhead, gothic and BDSM subcultures. Modern styles of casual combat boots are typically worn with miniskirts, pants that tuck into the boots, or with loose fitting pants. |
